Herbal Energetics

Herbal Energetics help us identify which herb can be helpful for specific situations.
It can also provide insight into the characteristics of many health issues we humans encounter.

The main pairs of energetics to consider are

Hot / Cold
Damp / Dry
Tense / Lax

We experience these as opposites,
but you can see there is also a spectrum to their intensity.

Cayenne pepper is very warming; Chamomile is slightly warming.
Watermelon is cold; Wood Betony is just a little cool.
Marshmallow root is moistening; Witch Hazel is very drying.
Nettle leaf can help tighten tissue; Lavender can help relax tight muscles.

In the human body we see these energetics manifest as

Heat – sunburn, fever
Cold – hypothermia
Damp – edema or rheumatoid arthritis
Dry – eczema or psoriasis
Tense – tension headache, muscle spasm
Lax – uterine prolapse or incontinence

How many of these have you experienced in your life?
It is such a BLESSING when our bodies are in good health, when we feel whole.

Herbs can provide support,
but dependence on an herb to resolve symptoms is not vibrant resilient health!

The four areas to focus on :

Eat More Nourishing Foods
Managing Stress Levels
Moving the Body
Sleep that is Restorative

For any given health issue, look for herbs that are supportive in these areas.

Nourishing Foods
For cold, sluggish digestion, add Kelp to soups and bone broth.
Try our Nettle and Dandelion Tinctures for their rich vitamin and mineral content!
Fermented foods like Kim Chi and Sauerkraut not only contain tons of probiotics
but are predigested, making them easier to assimilate.

Manageable Stress
If you find yourself having trouble managing stressful events, that is a kind of coldness,
or slowing down of the nervous system. Try our Holy Basil Glycerite to help stimulate the
hippocampus processing center of the brain, while providing warming and stimulating
nervous system support!

Abundant Movement
When you feel run down and slightly depressed, that’s a cold state.
A warming herb that is stimulating to the cardiovascular system such as
Cayenne can give that burst of energy that can get people up and going!
Sometimes slower exercise like yoga and Qi Gong can be helpful and just
as rejuvenating.

Restorative Sleep
Sometime its time for bed and all you can think about is all the things you
have to do tomorrow. We need help disengaging with the spinning wheels, which is
kind of like a heat in the head, and this is where our Skullcap Glycerite comes to the rescue.
Skullcap is cooling in the brain, which is what we need to help us fall asleep.
